Day Greets the Bay, Tolaga Bay, East Coast. One of those magic early autumnal days where the air is crisp, a gentle breeze thru the Toitoi and the soft sound of surf curling on the golden sand is all you can hear with the occasional cry of a seagull on the wing. Although, you can almost hear the sun melting the clouds...

Doubtful Island, North Lake Te Anau, Fiordland. I was captivated by this as I rounded a corner after a frantic drive out of Milford Sound chasing the light. And indeed I caught the light when I got here - one of those moments where you ″wow″ out loud, pull over to the side of the road in a hail of gravel and leap like idiot out for the best vantage point ... well- here it is. The cloud moves if you look long enough.

Eglington Valley, Fiordland. In my DVD I have this image with the sound effect of distant thunder rumbling and rattling through the valley. This is fairly well the same as what happened when I found this shot on my way into Milford Sound. Moments later huge raindrops splattered on my windscreen as I leapt back in with the camera sheltered under my T shirt. What a spectacular drive that was ...

Heat, Lake Ferry, Wairarapa. It had been a great day with a rip roaring southerly beating the coast all day. The wind had smacked up surf to a thick foam and a haze of salt air right along the south coast. The pub had served superb fish & chips with a crisp Martinborough sauvignon. A quick glance out the window to clarify why there was an odd orange glow on the wall, a mad dash to my room for the camera and a hell for leather dance across the rocks and driftwood ... all for your viewing pleasure. your can hear the air sizzle!

Vivid Wash, Wellington. This was taken from the Wellington Shed 5 area and I was intent on getting the evening light on Mount Victoria when the reflections on the water distracted me ... pleased they did - quite an abstract (but calming) result. This one really jumps off the wall at you.

Wake, Wellington. It is folklore that Wellington is nothing but the capital of wind - this goes to prove them wrong. An amazing weekend for a photographer when the airport closed and the city folk wandered about seeing their place in a very different shade of light. Fog hung in wisps around the suburbs for over three days. Eerie, distracting and incredible. And yes - the wind came back, but not after this caused a stir for the residents and a talking point for anyone foolish enough to challenge the wind theory. I like the shadows of the tower blocks casting shafts across the harbour.

Wellington by Night - an oldie but a goodie. Refreshed onto digital rather than the original film/negative version. Clear crisp evening with a subtle cloud over the eastern hills. Taken from Northland with the port on the left in light and the city laid out over the valley that nestles up against the green belt of Wellington.
